Asset spec cheat sheet
Every field Product Hunt asks you to fill in, with the exact limits and — more usefully — what each one actually does. Save this tab open on launch week.
Copy
Every text field Product Hunt asks you to fill in, with the hard limits and how much of it actually gets seen.
Shows above your tagline and in the feed. Keep it short and brandable — long compound names get truncated on mobile.
The single most-read line of your launch. Skip 'the leading' and 'AI-powered'. Lead with a verb and name the outcome.
Front-load the outcome and the audience in the first 250 characters. The rest only shows on the product page.
Post this within 2 minutes of going live. It anchors the discussion — introduce yourself, name the problem, offer a PH-only perk.
Choose 1 broad + 1 specific + 1 audience topic. Cramming three broad topics kills your category ranking.
A PH-exclusive discount or extended trial gives visitors a reason to click today instead of bookmarking for later.
Images
Everything visual. Get the aspect ratios right or PH will crop them for you — badly.
Shows next to your tagline in the feed. Must be legible at 40×40. Animated GIFs autoplay on hover — a 3-frame loop stops the scroll.
Slide 1 = hero shot. Slide 2 = core feature. Slide 3 = second feature. Slide 4 = social proof. Slide 5 = call-to-action.
This is what people see when your PH link is shared on Twitter/LinkedIn. Design slide 1 like an OG image, not a UI screenshot.
Video
Optional but lifts conversion 10–15%. Never film a talking head — screen-record the aha moment.
Embedded above the gallery. First 3 seconds must show the product doing its job. No intros, no logos, no music swells.
All four have free tiers for launch day. Beats video for click-heavy products (dashboards, editors, IDEs).
People
Who Product Hunt credits and notifies. Get this right or teammates lose their maker badge.
Everyone listed gets the maker badge on their profile, appears in launch notifications, and can reply as a maker in the comments.
Historically important; today the maker gets the launch notification either way. A well-known hunter still pings their audience.
Boosts your odds of a featured slot on the PH homepage and gives the shouted-out makers a reason to comment on your launch.
Useful URLs
The hidden pages Product Hunt gives makers. Bookmark them before launch day.
The only place to change gallery order, description, or promo code after submission. Only makers and hunter can access it.
Live rank, upvote count, comment feed, and referrer breakdown. Faster than refreshing the public page every 30 seconds.
